My Nighttime Dry-Skincare Routine

By: Marin Johnson, Manager at Grand Salon and Skincare Obsessive

I’ll start by saying that this skincare routine isn’t for everyone – it’s ideal for those with dry skin, and is especially beneficial in our cold autumn & winter months.  But this routine is customizable and it’s also about the benefits of evening-care for those who are time-challenged or slow-starters in the morning (of course, I am one of those people).

Most of what I know about my own skin, I’ve learned from Grand Salon’s incredibly knowledgeable and extremely talented aesthetician Stacey Lohmar.  If you haven’t already, you should definitely meet up with Stacey for a free consultation!  Since beginning my adventures at Grand, I have become completely obsessed with skincare and hopelessly addicted to the benefits of our curated product lines – – which I think, qualifies and authorizes me to post Vlogs on Nighttime Dry-skin Routines!

While there are certain things that I’m trying to correct with my skin, I also just love feeling moisturized and fresh. With that being said, sit back, relax and get ready to feel moisturized!

Step 1: Pre Cleanse

First, I use my Milk & Honey cleanser from Sanitas – one pump will do. It’s moisturizing and smooth & creamy, which helps remove that top layer of dirt from your face and your day-old makeup (yuck). It contains honey and B vitamins, which help protect the skin’s barrier function, restore natural clarity and boost moisture retention.

Step 2: Deep Cleanse

Next, I’ll cleanse again, but with my Glycolic Citrus Cleanser.  Again – one pump will do. You’re probably wondering why I use two cleansers to clean my face – the first cleanse is to remove that top layer of dirt and grime, and the second cleanse is to really get deep down in my pores without having that excess dirt hindering the cleanser from doing its job thoroughly. The Glycolic cleanser is an active formulation of glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid, which help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots while boosting moisture retention. Meaning…I’ll look like a baby forever!

Step 3: Tone

Now, with this step, you should customize to what your skin can handle. I have dry skin, but I also have dark spots. So I tone using the Hydrating Brightening solution to help reduce the appearance of my dark spots. This is an exfoliating treatment (that I use over my entire face)  that contains vitamin C to help brighten my skin. Then I go in with the Brightening peel pads. These are corrective treatment pads that utilize a triple acid blend to brighten, tone and reveal clear, radiant skin. Again, I’m targeting my dark spots – not everyone should be using two toners in one sitting. Personally, I use two at night, if my skin really needs it and then I’ll just use the brightening solution in the morning. You could opt to doing the toner in the AM & the Brightening Peel Pads in the PM for something less invasive.

Step 4: Serum

This is my favorite part – but if you don’t like feeling extra oily and moisturized, you can use the Hyaluronic Concentrate instead. I use Natural Moisture Factor, a serum that leaves your skin hydrated, moisturized and brighter. Before I apply the serum, I mist a couple of sprays of the Moisture Mist, a spray that enhances the absorption of serums and moisturizers. Again, one pump is all you need. This serum can act as a moisturizer but I like to use it combined with my moisturizer at night, letting it sink in and do it’s job while i’m sleeping.

Step 5: Moisturize

Finally (and sadly) the last step is to moisturize. I use the Topical C balm. I only use this bad boy during our exceptionally dry Colorado fall and winter months and then I’ll switch to something lighter in the spring and summer. It’s a deep moisturizing Vitamin C balm that nourishes extremely dry skin, helping to reduce wrinkles and dark spots while speeding skin renewal. (FYI: It’s also really good for burns).

Voila! We’re done. Now you’re ready to hit the sheets and wake up with bright, moisturized skin. Trust me, this little bit of extra evening work makes my morning routine so much simpler.  And since I can’t wake up early enough to act like I’m at a day spa, it’s also necessary. This routine is customizable, so especially if you have dry skin, give it a try. You won’t regret it.

Side Note* I also try to keep up with facials as much as I can with Stacey. With facials, microderms, IPL’s etc, your skin will see maximum benefit with a regular routine of maintenance. Coming in once a year is ¡no bueno!  But if you commit to a schedule you’ll see the results you want. You can schedule your skin services with Stacey conveniently with Grand’s online booking system or give the front desk a call (303.589.5270).  Grand is also launching additional MedSpa services, including botox and fillers, starting in early November!
