It’s Wedding (Skin) Season!

Make your skincare part of your wedding plan
First comes love, then the BIG question, and then……THE PLANNING. Weddings are meant to be a celebration of love and happiness, not stress and anxiety. With all the wedding to-do lists that grow by the day, there is a lot going on. To simplify and streamline your beauty regimen, the nurses and estheticians at Grand’s MedSpa have put together our collective wisdom, some planning tips and sample treatment plans to give you an idea of how you can keep your wedding skin glowing for the big day and beyond.
Whenever I’m consulting with brides-to-be, I separate their wedding skin needs into 3 categories: Injectables, Corrective Care, and Healthy Skin Care Maintenance. Different brides have different goals and needs so all 3 categories may not apply to everyone. Think of it as the framework to creating a clear, concise and customized wedding skin plan that takes the guesswork out of the 2 biggest questions: “What do I do?” and “When do I get it done?”
Injectables
While some brides and grooms to be will have already dipped their toes into the injectables waters, it may be completely new to others. This is a category that can make some people nervous because of their perception of injectables. Rest assured, the overly plumped and frozen faces that you’ve undoubtedly seen on social media are not our goals for you.
Before any injectable procedure, we take the time to have a conversation about your goals and what we can do to help you accomplish them. We will review how we can address your concerns and exactly what your options are. Keeping your wedding date in mind, we’ll also establish a beauty treatment plan and timeline for you. This will help keep your busy schedule on time and organized so you have one less thing to think about.
Whether or not you’re contemplating getting filler or Botox or Dysport, timing is everything. (Remember: Filler fills and plumps and Botox/Dysport relax muscles) Filler should be completed no less than 1 month (at the very latest) from your wedding date. When time allows, it’s ideal to get your filler done 2 – 3 months from the wedding date. If you are thinking about trying Botox or Dysport for the first time before your wedding, scheduling at least 6 months out would be best. These products typically last 3 months so this would give you enough time to try it first to ensure you like it and then you can make any adjustments that are needed before your treatment for the wedding day.
Skin Concerns
When hundreds of photos are going to be taken of you and your partner on the big day, it’s natural to want to put your best face forward. Sometimes this means addressing some primary skin concerns that may have been on your mind for awhile.
Getting your skin wedding ready doesn’t mean it needs to be an expensive or laborious year long endeavor. I have always been a firm believer that keeping it simple is the key to success. When you understand how to actually treat the root cause of a concern, you’re on the fast track to healthy skin. Spend less time trying to sort out which of the millions of skin care options and treatments will actually work and provide results and leave it to the pros. With 16 years of experience, I’ve helped thousands ensure they are using the right products and treatments for their concerns and skin type.
Some of the most common concerns I hear brides wanting to address are pigmentation or brown spots, acne and acne scarring, texture and tone of their skin, and overall health or glow of their skin. These are all easily addressed and treatable with a simple wedding skin care regimen. We’ll customize a plan just for you, in conjunction with treatments that we offer to correct concerns on a deeper level. With so many different options, sometimes it’s nice to have someone available to breakdown exactly what to do and why – and how it will bring you the results you’re looking for.
Maintaining Skin Health
I can’t stress the importance of “Skin Health” enough here. Yes it is “skin care” but we need to start doing more than just “caring” for our skin. The Integumentary system (skin) is the largest organ of the body and yet most do very little to ensure that it stays healthy. Much like you need to have dental cleaning to prevent gum disease, cavities and to remove plaque from teeth, our skin also needs “cleanings” to prevent a multitude of skin concerns and diseases. Checking for and preventing skin cancer, and removing bacteria, excess oil and sebum from the skin and pores are just a few important reasons – you get the idea. You need your teeth. You need your skin. Taking care of it is vital to your health.
Whether you are seeking corrective treatments and/or injectables, basic skin health should never be neglected. In fact, in some cases, when your take care of your skin, it negates or lessens the need for syringes of plumping fillers and muscle relaxing Botox in your future. I often see people seeking fillers as their go-to instead of first focusing on the root cause of their concern: skin health. Our skin is an organ that requires vitamins, nutrients, oil, water, and blood to function and to function optimally. With basic skin health, your skin is being taken care of the way that it needs to be.
To maintain healthy skin, optimizing your skin care regimen at home is the first place to start. You don’t need use hundreds of skin care products. We just need to fine tune and ensure that the products being used will work best for you in helping accomplish your goals in maintaining healthy skin. Second to your skin care regimen are your “cleanings”. Sometimes this means a monthly or quarterly facial. This is why we help you set up a plan that becomes your routine in basic skin health. Of course, everyone wants flawless, glowing wedding skin, but it’s actually shockingly easy to maintain that forever. Promise.
Timing is Everything
Having a plan in place will help keep you and your wedding skin goals on track. One of the main reasons having a treatment plan is so helpful is because it sets a clear path to help you accomplish your skin health goals instead of having to do constant research for what treatments and skin care products actually work and produce results.
Staying on track and on time is important but so is making sure that the services and skin care happen in the order that makes the most sense. Sometimes to help you reach your goals of healthy wedding skin, different services may be recommended. The order in which they take place matters. This is also to make sure we are maximizing the potential for outstanding results on your wedding day and happily ever after.
Consistency is key. In the coming days, I’ll post some example treatment plans from previous and current patients. Keeping things simple and organized is the best way to create new, life long habits that will not only help you feel radiant and overjoyed on your big day but also a better understanding of how to keep the largest organ of your body as healthy as can be. Your skin will thank you.
