Top 5 Hair Color Trends in Denver

With the changing of seasons comes changing of hair. Grand Salon is sharing fall's new color trends and offering some autumn inspo just in time for your next appointment.

Grab your sweaters, socks and spooky vibes because fall is here and we’ve been ready!

Let’s talk about the Top 5 hair color trends we’re seeing in Denver right now.

Color Blocking

For the bold and fearless, color blocking is all about statement hair. Two (or more) colors are placed in large sections for major contrast. We’ve seen dramatic color blocking like stripes of dark and platinum blonde, or more subtle contrast with lighter shades. Either way, color blocking is a strong color choice for fabulous hair. This look can be a little more high maintenance, requiring more frequent visits to the salon to keep it looking fresh.

Pro-tip for color blocking: Use cold water in the shower. Cold water helps prevent color fading and color transfer, so the cooler you can stand it, the better.

Product recommendations: R+Co’s GEMSTONE Pre-Shampoo Color Protect Masque is designed to help fortify, seal the hair cuticle, and deliver shine. With their color-locking Chromohance technology, your color is protected and your hair feels great.

Warm Blonde

Gone are the icy, white blondes of summer. (If you’re an icy, white blonde, I’m not talking to you. You can keep scrolling. We love you.) With school back in session, many of our blondes have been wanting warmer tones and deeper roots. They’re asking for less “bright” and more “toned down.” Less “as blonde as humanly possible” and more “I’m trying to grow my hair out.” We’re talking rich, luxurious blonde with lots of rich gold.

Pro-tip for warm blondes: Schedule a toner for 6 weeks after your blonding service. A toner is a pigmented gloss that helps keep your color looking perfect. It’s a great refresh for in-between your bigger color appointments.

Product recommendations: The Blonde Absolu line from Kérastase is our holy grail when it comes to blondes. Bain Lumiere and Cicaflash provide daily strength and shine for lightened hair. Don’t sleep (figuratively) on the Serum Cicanuit – an intense overnight recovery hair serum for all blondes. It works wonders on your hair while you (literally) sleep.

Gray Blending

Another color trend we’re seeing? Ditching the color all together! Gray blending is becoming more and more popular as we see guests embracing their natural hair. Stylists can camouflage grays with highlights or lowlights, blending the natural color with foils so the grow out is less noticeable. A gloss can also help tone down a stark root, or the line of outgrowth from previously colored hair. We recommend a complimentary consultation with one of our gray-blending experts prior to this color service.

Pro-tip for gray blending: Similar to blondes, a toner between services can help keep the gray blended and your outgrowth less noticeable. Come in every 6 weeks for a cool-toned gloss.

Product recommendation: Our best-selling Bain Ultra-Violet by Kérastase is a purple shampoo that deposits pigment designed to counter yellow, brassy tones. Use this shampoo up to once a week (depending on how frequently you wash your hair) for at-home color maintenance.

Dimensional Brunette

Bored of the same single color from your roots to your ends, but don’t know how to spice up your brown hair without getting too blonde? Welcome to the world of dimensional brunettes! We’ve heard caramel, chocolate, chestnut (Ok, now I’m hungry) to describe the rich, melty brunette colors our stylists are creating. Highlights that aren’t too light and lowlights that aren’t too low help create beautiful custom color that feels anything but flat.

Pro-tip for brunettes: If you’re a daily shampooer, try to wash your hair less frequently. Shampooing often fades color faster, and brunettes have a lot of deep warmth that can be exposed over time as color fades. The less you shampoo, the longer the color lasts.

Product recommendation: For ultimate shine and softness, as well as heat protection, the Serum Chroma Thermique by Kerastase can’t be beat! This lightweight spray protects your color, reduces frizz, and protects against humidity.

Bronde

Finally, a color that is as trendy as it is classic – for when you don’t want to choose between brunette and blonde, our guests have been loving the Seamless Bronde. This perfect in-between blend is beautiful on everyone, allows for maximum time between salon visits, and is easy to refresh with just a gloss. We are loving this versatile color that is sweeping the internet and our color books alike.

Pro-tip: If you’re transitioning from an all-over blonde to something more low-maintenance like Bronde, ask your stylist if a root melt might be right for you! A root melt is a gloss applied at the roots and painted down to create a darker “shadow” base, while keeping ends lighter.

Product recommendation: To keep lighter ends happy and healthy but not weigh down the roots, grab Kevin Murphy’s HYDRATE.ME Wash and HYDRATE.ME Rinse. This duo will smooth and replenish hair with antioxidants for a healthy, hydrated glow.
