Sitting down with Tara Clark is like kicking your feet up at the end of a long day. She has a relaxed and soothing presence that is instantly calming. Her soft voice slows the rush of the busy salon just outside her MedSpa room door. The sound of gentle, crashing waves plays in the background and the lights are dim as we sit down to chat.
You may recognize Tara from her time as one of the friendly faces on our Guest Relations team. She joined Grand in 2022 after looking for an entry into the beauty industry.
Born and raised in the Denver Metro area, Tara became interested in esthetics and skincare after researching eyelash extensions and learning that it could only be offered by a licensed esthetician. “I was always into skincare but never knew what an esthetician was,” she said. “I thought, ‘This is right up my alley – I love lashes, skin, makeup.”
While she researched schools, eventually enrolling at Paul Mitchell the School Denver, Tara wanted to gain some working experience in the spa environment, which is what brought her to Grand Salon & MedSpa
“They have a MedSpa, they do facials, they do cool stuff that I’ve never even heard of before. I didn’t know what PRP was before I worked here. I never would have thought that I’d be exposed to all these things by just wanting lash extensions,” she said. When asked how she likes working at Grand after three years, she said, “I love the culture. A lot of companies will say they’re a family, and it can feel hollow. But here, it feels like a community. The culture is one of a kind.”
After over a year working in the MedSpa as a licensed esthetician, Tara has found her true passion within skincare: healing acne.
“I love working with acne clients. That’s a big reason I got into skincare in the first place before I was an esthetician – trying to figure out my own skin,” she said. “Now I feel like I came into this with a lot of background about acne. I built upon it in school, built upon it actually seeing things in the treatment room. I feel really confident about dealing with acne. I’ve done it all, I’ve definitely experienced it all.”
As someone who has personally battled acne, Tara brings understanding and empathy to her guests struggling with breakouts. “Understanding how people are coming to you, where they’re at, it helps build trust and relationships.” One thing that Tara prioritizes in both her services and professional recommendations is positive reinforcement. “Skincare advice can be very negative, ‘Don’t do this, don’t use that.’ I don’t like to come into it with negativity,” she said. “It sounds funny but it’s almost like gentle parenting people into better choices, better habits, and better products.”
After one visit with Tara, your skin will feel rejuvenated and you will feel supported in your skincare journey. She works hard to find the most appropriate treatments and products for each individual and their concerns. She approaches each service with a caring mindset, asking how her guest is feeling and what they are needing at that specific moment. She also incorporates crystals into her consultations to help set an intention for the service. Need extra relaxation? A boost of energy? Peaceful mind? “It can be anything. I’ll pick a crystal and we’ll cultivate that intention to enhance your experience,” said Tara. “It’s a cool little piece of my personality,” she said, that sets her services apart. “I really like to spoil my guests. I want to create this really luxurious experience they’ve never had somewhere else so they want to come back.”
We asked Tara for some of her favorites here at Grand Salon & MedSpa when it comes to services and products, and she filled us in.
“I swear by Sanitas as a brand. People always think I’m just saying that, but truly, they are my holy grail. My favorite product is the Beta Clarifying Solution. Personally it transformed my skin and I always see a difference when I recommend it to someone,” she said.
Her favorite service? Dermaplaning. A form a physical exfoliation that uses a surgical scalpel to gently remove the top layer of skin and fine facial hair, it’s one of the services you get instant gratification. “With a facial, you feel lighter, glowing, hydrated, but you don’t notice a night and day difference — it’s a process,” said Tara. “With dermaplaning, it’s right away, it’s immediate. It feels like your skin is breathing.”
Another favorite of hers is the serum infusion add-on. “The number one concern I hear is dryness. The climate we live in, when people move to Colorado their skin just freaks out. You can’t go wrong with serum infusion,” she said. “Everyone is always going to need hydration, and it can be added to any service. That’s another one where you will notice a difference right away. You feel it lasting too – it can really transform your skin.”
When she’s not in the MedSpa, Tara spends much of her free time relaxing. “I love reading, writing, going to the mountains, going to the movies. I am a pretty simple person,” she said. “Some would say boring, and that’s ok. That’s my perfect weekend — in the mountains with a book, come home, watch a movie, take a nap.”
