The Benefits of Jade Rolling
by Astrid Valles
Growing up I remember my Mom putting spoons in the fridge and thinking that was odd. Things only got weirder when my Mom took said spoons out of the fridge and laid them down on her eyes and lower eyelids. You know, where “eye bags” find a home. It’s a memory that turned into my own little beauty trick over the years. Since then, a new beauty tool has replaced the good ‘ol spoon trick and it’s called the Jade Roller.
What is a Jade Roller?
We’ve all seen these rollers at this point. Different colors, similar shapes, and they all roll. Jade usage for beauty benefits actually dates back to 17th century China. So what does it do exactly? Jade, and similar stones, are naturally very cold regardless of their environment and temperature. The coldness of the stone is what makes jade rolling so beneficial, and for a few reasons. More on that in a minute.
What are the benefits of Jade Rolling and does it actually work?
The benefits of jade rolling all stems from the innate coolness of the stone itself. Here’s the science: cold temperatures address blood flow, increases circulation, pressure pushes fluid to lymph nodes, here toxins are flushed and filtered out. This means that redness and rosacea is soothed, inflammation remedied, and skin aglow. Think: faces that are less puffy, more toned and taut, healthier skin cells that leave skin with a glowing complexion.
How do I jade roll?
The proper way to use your jade roller is to follow the flow of your lymphatic system. You can do this on a freshly cleansed face but a personal favorite and best recommendation is to first apply a facial oil or serum. This will push the oils and serums into your skin all while you are flushing toxins and inflammation out.
Following the arrows on the face above, start at the neck and work your way up. Using light pressure, roll the jade 3 times in each section before moving to the next area. Start with one side of your face before moving to the other side.
The next time you think about the benefits of jade rolling and whether it actually works or not, you can refer back here. It works when you put it to work and visible results are possible and totally worth it!
